Officially known as José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal, is a Chilean-American actor. He was raised in Orange County, California and San Antonio, Texas. Pedro rose to prominence after he portrayed the infamous role of Oberyn Martell in hit HBO series Game of Thrones. Pedro was widely celebrated for playing a stern DEA agent Javier Peña in Narcos. His most recent screen appearance comes in post-apocalyptic series The Last of Us.

Pedro, as an aspiring actor in his 20s, made a living by working various jobs, including waiter staff and doing small roles in theatre gigs. Although he studied acting at NYU, he initially appeared as side characters in various television series. Critically acclaimed Buffy The Vampire Slayer featured Pedro as a supporting character Eddie who becomes a victim to a vampire gang. However, Pedro found fame in his early 40s after 2016’s GOT.

Pedro has always kept his personal life and dating history away from the spotlight, sharing very little details about who he is romantically involved with. During his childhood, Pedro’s parents escaped Chile before settling in the United States. He has three siblings: an older sister Javiera, a younger sister Lux and a younger brother Nicolás. The actor was devastated after his mother Verónica Pascal Ureta committed suicide in 2000. He was deeply affected by this loss. In order to honour his late mother, Pedro decided to take her maiden name.
