Zohran Mamdani made New York history by turning his victory into a Bollywood moment.
The 34-year-old has officially become the first-ever Muslim mayor of New York City, stunning political watchers across the globe with his landslide win over former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.
Notably, the Democratic socialist also became the youngest person to hold the post in a century, running a fiery campaign promising “power to the people, not the powerful."
But it wasn’t just his politics that lit up social media, it was his victory playlist.
As Mamdani wrapped up his speech declaring, “We have toppled a political dynasty,” the beat of Bollywood anthem Dhoom Machale blasted through the speakers.
Standing beside his wife Rama Duwaji and his proud mother, celebrated filmmaker Mira Nair, he beamed as the crowd erupted in cheers.
“Whoever played Dhoom Machale at Mamdani HQ deserves a raise,” one fan joked on X.
Another gushed, “Walking off as NYC mayor-elect to Dhoom Machale is iconic behaviour.”
Pedro Pascal, who is known for his role in Game Thrones, also took a moment to pay tribute to the newly elected mayor.
The 50-year-old actor actor took to his Instagram to re-share a post of the state representative and added many praying emojis to the update.
