Rosie O’Donnell has revealed why she struggled to stay connected with Michelle Trachtenberg before the actress’ tragic passing.
The 64-year-old star, who shared the screen with the deceased in Harriet the Spy, opened up about their relationship in an interview with Variety, recalling her former co-star’s abilities and difficult moments before her death.
She described the late actress as a "genius child" who could quickly learn lines, improvise and stay fully connected during performances.
She also remembered the close relationship Trachtenberg shared with her mother Lana and sister.
However, she said she eventually lost touch with the actress as she faced personal challenges.
She revealed that Trachtenberg had become difficult to reach and missed several planned meetings, including dinners they had arranged together.
The A League of Their Own star admitted she never expected Trachtenberg would pass away, adding that addiction can have serious consequences and affects many families.
For the unfamiliar, Trachtenberg was found unconscious in her New York City apartment on February 26, 2025.
Her cause of death was later confirmed as complications from diabetes mellitus, with officials ruling her death as natural.
