Prince Harry has once again declined King Charles’ offer to stay at Buckingham Palace during his visits to the UK, opting for a hotel instead, according to insiders.
The Duke of Sussex, 40, has repeatedly raised concerns about his safety while in Britain since stepping down as a working royal in 2020.
Although Harry has made several solo trips back to the UK, Meghan Markle and their two children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, have only visited a handful of times due to security fears.
In April, Harry returned to London for his Court of Appeal hearings over his downgraded taxpayer-funded security.
Royal expert Robert Hardman revealed in The Daily Mail that the King extended an invitation for Harry to stay at Buckingham Palace, but the Duke refused.
“Once again, he said no, presumably because the Palace is still so unsafe, and ended up staying in a hotel,” one Palace staffer remarked with thinly veiled sarcasm.
It is not the first time Harry has rejected the Palace offer.
He has also stayed in hotels under private security or at Althorp House, the family estate of his uncle Charles Spencer, where Princess Diana is buried.
When Harry will next return to the UK remains unclear.
