A royal photographer has come to Queen Camilla’s defence after she was targeted by “abhorrent” online comments during her recent state visit to the Vatican with King Charles III.
The royal couple spent two days in Vatican City, where Charles made history as the first British monarch to pray with the Pope since the Reformation.
For their audience with Pope Leo XIV, Queen Camilla followed Vatican protocol by wearing black, a tradition for non-Catholic royal women, choosing a silk dress by Fiona Clare, a black mantilla by Philip Treacy, and the late Queen Elizabeth II’s £40,000 raspberry pip brooch.
Despite adhering to papal tradition, trolls mocked her outfit online, calling the veil a “fashion misstep.”
Royal photographer Joshua Brandwood, who accompanied the royal tour, hit back at the critics on X, writing: “Saddened to see some truly abhorrent comments about Her Majesty. Every time I’ve photographed her, she’s been nothing but gracious and kind.”
He added: “I genuinely couldn’t say a bad word about her.”
