Prince William, and Prince Harry face heartbreak after loss of key family figure

Heartbreak has struck close to the Royal Family following the death of a woman deeply connected to Princes William and Harry’s childhood.

Dame Shan Legge-Bourke, a former lady-in-waiting to Princess Anne and the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry’s much-loved childhood nanny, has died peacefully at home aged 82.

She was the mother of Tiggy Pettifer, who famously cared for William and Harry during their formative years following the death of Princess Diana.

Through her daughter Tiggy, Dame Shan was believed to have developed a warm relationship with both princes.

William and Harry were frequent visitors to the Glanusk Estate, near Crickhowell on the Welsh border, where Dame Shan lived and which she ran for many years.

Dame Shan’s family confirmed her passing in a heartfelt statement, paying tribute to her life of service and dedication.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the family said: “We are devastated to lose our mother. She was an inspiration to us all, and to many people she met over her years of service to Wales, and the countless organisations and institutions she supported.

“A country girl at heart, she has left an indelible legacy at Glanusk, the wider countryside and beyond.”

Her many distinguished roles included serving as Lord Lieutenant of Powys and chair of the Brecon and Radnor Country and Land Association, among numerous other charitable and civic commitments.
