The Royal Family’s so-called “secret weapon” isn’t a prince or a princess, and insiders say that’s exactly why she matters.
Lady Louise Windsor has quietly been singled out by royal experts as one of the most dependable and promising members of the younger generation, with some claiming she was “precisely the kind of person” the late Queen Elizabeth II could always rely on.
Royal commentator Phil Dampier has previously described Lady Louise as one to watch suggesting she could one day take on royal responsibilities despite remaining firmly under the radar.
Under royal protocol, the children of male descendants of the monarch automatically qualify for prince or princess status. However, Edward and Sophie chose to leave that decision to Louise and her younger brother James once they turned 18.
Royal author Ingrid Seward previously described the late Queen’s youngest granddaughter as “always an asset” to the Royal Family, praising her polite and composed nature.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Seward said Louise had long been admired behind palace doors, adding that she carried herself with quiet confidence, something the Queen deeply valued.
Lady Louise is also said to share a strong bond with her late grandfather, Prince Philip, particularly through her passion for carriage driving.
The Duke of Edinburgh famously encouraged her interest in the sport, with Duchess Sophie later revealing just how proud Philip was of his granddaughter.
“My father-in-law was always so good at encouraging, he was really encouraging of Louise. When she showed a flair for it, he was just brilliant with her”, she said.
Now in her fourth and final year studying English at the University of St Andrews, Louise has enjoyed a remarkably normal upbringing for a royal.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams has suggested Louise’s academic interests make her particularly well-suited to royal duties if she chooses that path.
“Her choice of A-level subjects, including history, politics, and drama, seems particularly appropriate, since the first two would obviously be useful for a working royal, and royalty is also theatrical”, he said.
