Meghan Markle has sparked debate after an on-stage moment with a close friend during a bookstore event was branded “rude” and “awkward” by some viewers.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, made a surprise appearance on Thursday at Godmothers Bookstore in Summerland, near her Montecito home.
She joined her longtime friend, author Courtney Adamo, for a live-streamed panel discussion.
During the event, Meghan appeared to interrupt Courtney to adjust her microphone, reportedly pulling it closer to her face. While seemingly well-intentioned, the moment divided social media.
One viewer wrote on X: “Awkward moment Meghan Markle interrupts bookstore speaking event to correct how her friend holds the microphone. Is she trying to be over smart?”
Another added: “So incredibly rude, and yet so typical.”
However, others defended Meghan’s actions, praising her polished presence. One fan commented on Instagram: “She’s slaying right now,” while another said: “While Meghan is enjoying life, the royal scandal in Britain is raging on. Keep shining, Meghan.”
