A close friend of Emily Robinson, Meghan Markle’s former chief of staff, has broken their silence following her sudden resignation, hinting that “things must have been pretty horrible” behind the scenes.
Emily, who previously worked on Netflix’s The Crown, was considered a controversial appointment given the show’s portrayal of the Royal Family.
She became Meghan’s tenth publicist in five years, but stepped down after just three months in the role.
Speaking to the Daily Express, a friend revealed that it was Emily’s choice to leave: “It was her decision. She left a few weeks ago. She’s not a quitter, so things must have been pretty horrible for her to go.”
Emily’s LinkedIn profile currently makes no mention of her time working with the Duchess, though it lists other senior communications positions she’s held.
A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed Emily’s departure, saying she “oversaw project-based work for With Love, Meghan and provided support for Archewell Productions,” adding that she “did an excellent job and completed these projects with great success.”
