Anne Hathaway, who is known for her roles in several movies, portrayed the role of a pop icon in the upcoming psychosexual pop melodrama Mother Mary.
The 43-year-old actress’ character was said to have links to Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and other popstars of the entertainment industry.
During a red carpet interview, she was asked if Mother Mary has any links to Taylor and other stars to which she responded with: “I don’t know that the film examines them.”
She added that the film navigates “Mother Mary,” explaining how “David [Lowery] wanted to come up with a platonic ideal of what a popstar could be.”
The Devil Wears Prada actress insisted about the significance of studying “all of the greats to understand what space was left.”
Anne made it clear that she and the team did not want the titular character to “sound like anybody else.” She added: “We wanted her to be her own thing.”
The statement debunked the previous rumours about the motion picture being an inspiration, focusing on its originality.
The A24 movie, which is all set to hit the theatres on April 11, had a NYC premiere on April 13, 2026 which welcomed Anne and other A-list stars.
