King Charles stepped out to perform the royal family's historic tradition on a day close to Prince William and Prince Harry's hearts.
On July 1, Buckingham Palace released a statement, sharing with the royal fans that the monarch attended the historic Ceremony of the Keys, which took place in the Gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Alongside delightful photos from the royal engagement, the King's office shared a message detailing the significance of the tradition.
"Dating back centuries, this tradition symbolises Edinburgh welcoming its monarch," the royal family's spokesperson said.
The statement further reads, "The Lord Provost presented the Keys of the City to His Majesty, who returned them for safekeeping."
"The King’s Bodyguard Scotland, established in 1822 during King George’s visit, formed the Guard of Honour. Music was provided by The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and their Pipes and Drums, accompanying this traditional royal ceremony in Scotland."
Notably, King Charles' appearance came on the occasion of the late Princess Diana's birthday.
For the unversed, the royals celebrate the annual Scottish tour, also known as “Royal Week” or “Holyrood Week", from July 1 to 4 annually.
