Billie Eilish secures the lead on Spotify against Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift

In a shocking turn of events, Billie Eilish secured the top spot on Spotify’s charts despite having no new album’s release in 2020.

This win is so rare that fans are puzzled over how the 18-year-old was able to beat out Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift’s new releases, all with a handful of singles at her disposal.

Spotify announced this news yesterday with a tweet read, “Nothing but respect for our queens. These female artists had the most streams across Spotify in 2020 #2020Wrapped” 

According to Spotify, the reason Eilish climbed to the top is because she garnered 49,736,031 listeners monthly. Her album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? released in 2019, helped her win the title on the platform.

However, that is not to say that the singer was completely silent this year, she did release three new songs this year, including a November hit co-written with her brother titled Therefore I Am.
