Singer Irish Grinstead of the girl group 702 passed away at the age of 43.

With a heavy heart and mourning soul, her sister as well as her fellow group member, Lemisha Grinstead, announced the news via an Instagram post, writing:

“It is with great sadness that I have to let you know that my beautiful sister and friend has passed away this evening,”

Not revealing the cause of death she further stated, “She has had a long battle and she is finally at peace. That girl was as bright as the stars! She was not only beautiful on the outside, but also within.”

While recalling the beautiful moments they got to experience together she shared, “Sharing the stage with her was a joy I will cherish for the rest of my life!”

As the family navigates through a difficult phase, Lemisha asked fans to pray for the departed soul and appealed to respect their privacy.

“We, the family ask for prayers and respect for our privacy as we grieve an outstanding loss to our family.”

702 hit the mark with some songs in the 90’s like Steelo and Where My Girls At.

The group name is pronounced as Seven-Oh-Two which actually derived from the area code of the members’ hometown in Las Vegas.

Apart from Singer Irish Grinstead and her sister Lemisha Grinstead, there is a third group member, whose name is Kameelah Williams.

702 was nominated for a BET Award, an American Music Award , and multiple Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, winning best R&B/soul album of the year by a group, band or duo for No Doubt.
