Dr. Anthony Fauci warns rise in COVID-19 cases, as the new wave is more stronger

America’s infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci has warned Americans of surge upon surge of coronavirus cases in the upcoming weeks of holidays.

The member of President Donald Trump’s coronavirus task force, Fauci has warned that residents should be extra careful and cautious in the coming weeks of holidays leading up to Christmas as situation will be more serious.

While speaking at the Meet the Press on Sunday, Fauci warned of the restrictions to be followed as COVID-19 cases continue to spike in the U.S.

"We have to be careful now because there is almost certainly going to be an uptick because of what has happened with the travel," he said.

Fauci also said the he expected this spike in COVID-19 cases following the Thanksgiving holiday. "We likely will have an increase in cases as we get into the colder weeks of winter and as we approach the Christmas season," he added.

The US has seen an alarming rise in infections and hospitalizations this month. On Friday, new daily cases surpassed 200,000 for the first time during the outbreak. To date, more than 13.2 million COVID-19 infections have been confirmed in the US, with at least 266,000 deaths, as per data collected by John Hopkins university.

Amid this critical situation, the state has decided to restrict indoor gatherings of large groups ahead of Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Fauci also said that, "When you have the kind of inflection that we have, it doesn't all of a sudden turn around like that."

"And perhaps even two or three weeks down the line, we may see a surge upon a surge," he said. "We don't want to frighten people, but that's just the reality."
