Prince William just shared one of the funniest royal anecdotes yet — and it’s all thanks to a very confused tourist.
The 43-year-old Prince of Wales opened up about the moment during his appearance on the latest episode of Eugene Levy’s Apple TV+ series, The Reluctant Traveler, and it’s now one of the Royal Family’s favourite inside jokes.
“The tour guides get to hear some funny stories,” William told Levy, laughing.
“We heard back one time that, I won’t name the nationality of the tourist, but they were looking around the castle going, ‘Wow, this place is incredible, but why did they have to build the castle so close to Heathrow Airport?’”
The Prince couldn’t help but laugh as he added that the comment “has gone down as the number one quote of a tourist going around Windsor Castle.”
For context, Windsor Castle was built in the 11th century by William the Conqueror, while Heathrow Airport opened as a small airfield in 1930, nearly 900 years later.
