'The Office' actor Rainn Wilson makes bombshell revelations about show

Rainn Wilson, who has cemented himself in the hearts of fans as Dwight Shrute, is opening up about what could’ve been as well as what was, taking a closer look at The Office.

The 59-year-old talked at-length about the beloved sitcom, and the way that recreating it currently would be very tricky due to its recurring, taboo themes.

In an episode of The Last Laugh podcast, he stated, “So it’s a show based around clueless, insensitive, racist, sexist people that kind of mirrors the United States in a lot of ways. You want to encourage it, because it’s funny as hell and it also kind of skewers a particular American sensibility.”

After noting the social commentary aspect of the bold sitcom and how it used to be, Rainn also touched on the fact that his character, Dwight, almost had a spinoff of his own called The Farm.

“NBC at that time had a new regime that came in and they wanted to do big, bright, flashy, splashy shows that were multi-cams and going back to ‘Friends’ kind of thing,” the Emmy nominee said, adding that the network was not interest in the spinoff.

Wilson then went on to echo a sentiment most fans of the series would agree with, that the scrapped spinoff would have been quite successful had it not been axed.
