Henry Cavill encountered an unexpected setback while preparing for his role in the fantasy reboot, Highlander.

According to Deadline, the 42-year-old actor was training to play the leading man in the 1986 adaptation when he got injured.

Though the extent of his injuries hasn’t been revealed yet, it has postponed the production of the movie, which will probably begin in 2026.

Notably, the former Man of Steel was cast to portray Conner MacLeod, the main character of the stunt-filled feature, alongside Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela and Karen Gillan.

Directed by Chad Stahelski, the reboot follows Conner MacLeod, a mysterious Scottish swordsman who learns that he is immortal. He then begins a journey to defeat wicked immortals who want to destroy Earth.

Previously, in conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Stahelski explained how he had high hopes for Highlander.

He said, “I truly believe this is one of those properties that could actually sustain a good universe, meaning a TV show or something.”

The filmmaker added that his production team is handling this IP (intellectual property) with “a lot of care.” For the unversed, Lionsgate Studios has secured the rights to develop the 1986 reboot into a film and a TV show.

Who created 'Highlander'?

The fantasy franchise was created by screenwriter Gregory Widen in 1986 when he wrote the script for the original film as a class assignment at UCLA. Highlander was later directed by Russell Mulcahy.
