Daniel Craig’s exit from James Bond continues to shape the future of the iconic spy franchise, as Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed the search for the next 007 is still underway, and fans shouldn’t expect an announcement any time soon.
The 58-year-old actor bowed out after 2021’s No Time To Die, a dramatic finale that famously killed off his version of Bond, marking one of the boldest endings in the series’ history.
Since then, the character has remained off-screen while a major behind-the-scenes shake-up took place, with Amazon MGM now steering the ship into a new chapter.
At CinemaCon in Las Vegas, studio executive Courtenay Valenti addressed growing speculation over casting, telling audiences the team is handling the process carefully and with “deep respect” for the legacy of the role.
She reassured fans that a new Bond film is firmly in development, but insisted the studio is not rushing the decision on who will take over the tuxedo from Craig.
Valenti also praised the heavyweight creative team attached to the project, including director Denis Villeneuve and writer Steven Knight, describing the collaboration as a “dream” group assembled to honour the franchise while pushing it forward for a modern audience.
Meanwhile, the rumour mill continues to spin wildly online, with actors Damson Idris, Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner all tipped as possible contenders, although no official shortlist has been confirmed.
Villeneuve, who has called Bond “sacred territory,” has previously said he grew up watching the films and intends to respect their tradition while opening the door to a fresh new era.
For now, though, 007 remains without a face, and the world is still waiting for the next man to step into Bond’s shoes.
