Daniel Day-Lewis seems to have an endless love for acting, since he has retracted his retirement announcement by taking on another role.
The three-time Academy Award winner is playing the lead in Anemone, a film directed by his son Ronan Day-Lewis.
In an interview with Rolling Stone on September 10, the upcoming movie’s co-writer stated, “I would have done well to just keep my mouth shut, for sure,” referring to his 2017 retirement remarks.
”It just seems like such grandiose gibberish to talk about. I never intended to retire, really. I just stopped doing that particular type of work so I could do some other work,” Daniel admitted.
The Lincoln star highlighted that he had some reservations about returning to the public eye, but once his son made it clear that he would scrap the project altogether if his father didn’t take on the part, he decided to join.
Daniel also noted that he had some residual sadness after making the announcement years ago, since he knew Ronan would keep making films and he would be missing out on that.
The father-son duo’s joint project revolves around similar themes and has been described as an exploration of the complex and profound ties that exist between brothers, fathers, and sons.
Anemone is slated to release early next month, on October 3, 2025.
