Michael Caine returns from retirement for Vin Diesel’s horror sequel

Michael Caine is coming out of retirement to reprise his role in the sequel to The Last Witch Hunter alongside Vin Diesel.

According to Variety, the 92-year-old actor will join hands with his longtime friend Diesel to portray the priest in the sequel passion project.

This feature will mark his return to the big screen after Caine announced in 2023 that he would retire from the industry.

Talking to BBC Radio 4’s Today Show, he said, “Well, I might as well leave with all this — I’ve got wonderful reviews. What have I got to do to beat this?”

His last film was The Great Escaper, about a World War II veteran who breaks out of his care home for an anniversary commemoration of D-Day.

Though The Dark Knight star hasn’t confirmed his involvement in the 58-year-old’s second instalment, the Lionsgate group chair, Adam Fogelson, said, “I'm thrilled to be reuniting with him as he returns to this iconic role.”

Notably, The Last Witch Hunter was directed by Breck Elsner and written by Corey Goodman. It starred Vin Diesel as the leading man, Kaulder, who is an immortal witch hunter, and plans to kill the Queen Witch before she puts humankind in danger.

Caine portrayed the priest, Dolan 36th, who aids hunters in their duties. Aside from notable actors, the cast included Elijah Wood, Rose Leslie, and Rena Owen, among others.

Though no plot or cast details have been released yet for the second part, Diesel’s return as the lead is confirmed.

Yes, Vin Diesel is returning for the 11th film in the Fast and Furious franchise, which is slated for release in 2026. The movie will conclude the 22-year-long series.
