Reconciling with Prince Harry, Meghan would show dangerous weakness

The royal family is being urged to tread carefully as speculation swirls around possible reconciliation efforts with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

The couple’s strained ties with the monarchy have come under renewed focus after their aides were spotted meeting King Charles’s communications secretary in London, prompting talk of a possible thaw in relations.

But not everyone is convinced it’s a good idea.

US-based royal commentator Lee Cohen has sounded a sharp warning: embracing a reconciliation could project a "dangerous weakness" on the Palace’s part.

Writing for GB News, Cohen said: “This is not a diplomatic crisis between nations; it is a family schism rooted in ingratitude and hubris. The Palace’s willingness to entertain such talks signals a dangerous weakness.”

Cohen criticized Harry and Meghan for choosing “exile, fame, and fortune over loyalty” and urged the Palace not to “chase after them, cap in hand, begging for reconciliation.”

He argued that any forgiveness without true accountability could “alienate supporters” and damage the monarchy’s credibility.

“The Sussexes’ defenders will argue that reconciliation is the Christian thing to do, that families must heal,” Cohen wrote.

“But forgiveness without accountability is not healing; it is surrender.”

“The monarchy is not a private family; it is a public institution, and its actions carry symbolic weight. The Palace must hold the line, not for spite but for survival.”

“The alternative is grim. A monarchy that bends to the Sussexes’ demands risks losing the respect of its most ardent supporters. The Crown has weathered worse storms than this, and it must not falter now.”
