Meghan Markle is facing sharp criticism after a Canadian lawyer publicly accused her of “using people” to advance her lifestyle brand, As Ever.
The Duchess of Sussex launched the brand earlier this year, and despite products selling out rapidly, the backlash is heating up.
Lawyer Phillip Millar unleashed a scathing attack, on The Art of the Brand podcast, claiming Meghan's success reflects "how gullible a lot of consumers are."
Speaking alongside marketing executive Camille Moore, Millar said the Duchess’s brand lacks authenticity and called her a "fraud."
“She [Meghan] is not substantial,” Millar said. “It is a deliberate misrepresentation of what she is, because she thinks she can pretend to be that while actually being this, and sucker people into buying her stuff."
"Every step of the way, she’s failing because it’s not legitimate. It’s not intelligent. It’s not well-executed.”
He went further, claiming that Meghan has used her fame from Suits and her royal connection to “milk” supporters:
“She was a fraud from the beginning who was just using opportunities to advance herself. Her brand wasn’t one built on substance. It was based on using people.”
Millar concluded: “They’re not executing anything well on any show or anything. But it shows how gullible a lot of consumers are.”
