King Charles shocks royals by scrapping 100-year-old Palace rule

King Charles is breaking with over a century of tradition by scrapping a long-standing rule at Buckingham Palace’s private tennis court.

For 106 years, a strict all-white dress code, mirroring Wimbledon’s famous rules, applied to anyone using the palace court, including royals, staff, and guests. But now, the 76-year-old monarch is reportedly relaxing this rule.

According to The Sunday Times, wearing all-white on the court is now merely “preferable” rather than “essential,” reflecting Charles’ more relaxed approach to palace life.

The change will take effect once refurbishments on the aging court, which has developed potholes, are complete.

Though it’s unclear who regularly uses the court, it’s believed Prince William, Princess Kate, and their children, all keen tennis players, may have played there over the years.

Princess Diana, known for her passion for the sport, also likely used the court during her time at the palace.

The Buckingham Palace tennis court, tucked within its gardens, has been an exclusive spot for over a century, until now.

Charles’ decision is seen as symbolic of his desire to modernize certain palace traditions while maintaining their heritage.
