Royal commentator Phil Dampier has reignited speculation about Meghan Markle’s motives for marrying Prince Harry, claiming she viewed him as a “stepping stone” to fame and fortune.
Speaking to The Sun, Dampier alleged that Prince William was skeptical from the start about Meghan joining the royal family, echoing remarks from the late Queen Elizabeth II’s confidante, Lady Elizabeth Anson, who reportedly shared the Queen’s concerns about Meghan’s intentions.
Dampier said: “Sadly, Meghan never really had any intention of staying in the Royal Family. She saw marrying Harry as a stepping stone to new fame and fortune. That’s what initially worried Prince William and now we are where we are.”
In response, a source close to Meghan strongly denied the claims, telling Page Six: “These are simply opinions, completely without merit and not grounded in fact. No one can possibly know Meghan’s intentions but her.”
Prince Harry and Meghan famously stepped down from royal duties in early 2020, relocating to California where they now live with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Since then, the couple has launched high-profile ventures, including lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify, but their royal split continues to spark headlines and speculation.
