Queen Elizabeth II was famous for her disciplined lifestyle, and that extended to her meals.

Former royal chef Darren McGrady has revealed just how set in her ways the late monarch was when it came to food, sharing that Her Majesty would have “thrown the book” at him if he dared suggest one particular dish.

While the Royal Family occasionally experimented with global cuisine, McGrady says Queen Elizabeth preferred simple, traditional British fare.

Speaking via Heartbingo, the ex-chef admitted: “They all wanted to broaden their palettes, but the Queen tended to stick to the same foods. If I had said, ‘Would you like to try kangaroo?’, I think she would have thrown the menu book at me.”

Her favourite meals included grilled fish or chicken with simple sides, a ritual afternoon tea (where scones were always on the table no matter the location), and her well-documented love for chocolate desserts.

Among her favourite treats are Morecambe Bay potted shrimp on toast and anything featuring chocolate, especially her beloved chocolate perfection pie.

Meanwhile, King Charles has different tastes, reportedly preferring hearty, old-fashioned meals like mutton.
