Prince Harry has left royal aides “utterly bewildered” after reportedly insisting that his children retain their HRH titles, despite walking away from royal life five years ago.
According to The Guardian, a source close to the Duke of Sussex revealed that Harry wants Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, to keep their HRH status so they can decide, once older, whether to live as working royals or stay out of the spotlight entirely.
The claim has sparked confusion inside Buckingham Palace.
Writing for The Daily Mail, royal expert Richard Eden quoted a senior source who said: “I find this very hard to understand. Harry and Meghan apparently found official duties and life within the Royal Family unbearable, yet they want this for their children. It doesn’t make sense.”
Though Harry and Meghan can no longer use their own HRH styles following their 2020 exit, they continue to go by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan recently spoke to People about how much the shared family name means to her, saying: “It’s our shared name as a family… It means a lot to me.”
