US President Donald Trump has surprised fans by setting aside his public “hate” for Taylor Swift to congratulate her on her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce.

Swift, 34, and Kelce, 34, announced their engagement on August 26 in a joint Instagram post that quickly went viral.

When asked about the news during a Cabinet meeting, President Trump offered well wishes despite his rocky history with the pop superstar.

“Well, I wish them a lot of luck. I think he’s a great player, a great guy. I think she’s a terrific person,” Trump said.

“So, I wish them a lot of luck.”

Trump has praised Kelce before, even as he has openly feuded with Swift. Earlier this year, the former president declared on Truth Social: “I hate Taylor Swift,” after the singer publicly endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris following her fiery debate with Trump.

He later mocked Swift in May 2025, saying she was “no longer HOT.”

Despite their clashes, Trump attended the Super Bowl earlier this year, the same game Swift cheered Kelce on from the stands.

Kelce warmly welcomed Trump’s presence at the time, calling it “an honour.”
