Is Meghan Markles Netflix career in trouble after harsh season two backlash?

Meghan Markle’s second season of With Love, Meghan has been met with devastating reviews just hours after dropping on Netflix.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, released eight new episodes of her lifestyle series on August 26, featuring celebrity guests including Chrissy Teigen and Tan France.

The show, filmed at a rented Montecito property rather than Meghan’s actual home, once again follows her as she cooks, crafts, and entertains friends.

But while some fans have praised the series as “wholesome,” critics have been far less kind. Writing for the Daily Mail, Liz Jones branded the show “staged, fake and dull”, though she admitted Meghan herself came across as genuine.

“She seems genuinely earnest: it really is not an act,” Jones conceded.

Meanwhile, The Times critic Hilary Rose described the programme as “baffling,” blasting Meghan’s creative activities like bookbinding and decorative gift-wrapping.

Rose wrote: “It’s like an advert for somewhere we’ll never go and aren’t invited, an ego trip in a sun hat that boils down to this: Meghan is pretty and likes roast chicken and flower arranging.”

Not all reviews were negative. Royal reporter Lauren Welch suggested this season felt “more rounded and wholesome”, noting Meghan’s nods to the UK and her choice of British guests.

Still, the early criticism casts doubt on whether the series can win over wider audiences.
