King Charles has reportedly sent a personal message of support to Joe Biden, following news that the former US president has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace confirmed that the 76-year-old monarch, who is himself undergoing ongoing cancer treatment, reached out to Biden privately earlier today.
The note was described as a gesture of compassion and solidarity during a difficult time.
The news of Biden’s diagnosis broke Friday, with tests showing the cancer had spread to his bones. This marks a serious turn in the former president’s health journey.
Earlier on Monday, Biden shared an emotional message via social media: “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”
The royal and political relationship between Charles and Biden has been notably warm.
In July 2023, the two met for tea and talks at Windsor Castle, where sources described their connection as “extremely cordial.”
Biden has also shown respect for the British monarchy on several key occasions including his attendance at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022 and a private bilateral meeting with Charles at COP26 in Glasgow in 2021, when Charles was still the Prince of Wales.
