Why Queen Elizabeth 'quietly intervened' in Meghan Markle, Kate's feud

The late Queen Elizabeth II kept a close eye on Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle to maintain unity within the royal family, according to former royal butler Grant Harrold. 

Speaking to Slingo, Harrold said the Queen was deeply committed to preserving harmony and would quietly intervene if she sensed tension, especially among the younger royals.

Reports of a rift between Meghan and Kate have circulated since 2018, including a now-infamous bridesmaid dress disagreement before Harry and Meghan’s wedding. 

Meghan later told Oprah Winfrey it was Kate who made her cry, but added that Kate later apologized with flowers and a note.

Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith also revealed new details from Lady Elizabeth Anson, the Queen’s cousin. 

She claimed Queen Elizabeth was “saddened” that Meghan wouldn’t share details about her wedding dress and that Prince Harry was “rude to her for ten minutes” during a meeting.

Liza, as Lady Elizabeth was affectionately known, said Harry bypassed protocol by asking the Archbishop of Canterbury to officiate without first consulting the Dean of Windsor, upsetting the Queen. 

“Harry seems to think the Queen can do what she wants, but she can’t,” Liza reportedly said.
