Prince William has been given a “perfect blueprint” to remove Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s royal titles, without facing backlash himself, according to royal commentator Sharon Hunt.
The suggestion comes after reports emerged that the Sussex children use their HRH titles on official documents like passports.
Hunt believes the royal family could follow the example set by Denmark’s Queen Margrethe, who in 2022 stripped four of her grandchildren of their royal titles.
While the move initially caused tension, it was seen as a pragmatic step to modernize the monarchy.
The commentator proposes that King Charles could take similar action now, removing the HRH status from Harry and Meghan’s children, thereby shielding Prince William from future criticism once he becomes King.
“Like Queen Margrethe did… King Charles has the power to cut the HRH cord,” Hunt wrote.
She argues that this would help ensure “stability for the next generation” while also keeping the door open for future reconciliation between William and Harry.
Though controversy would likely follow such a decision, Hunt believes it would be better for Charles to “take the hit” now rather than burden William later.
