The James Bond franchise has been taken over by Amazon MGM, and they are already planning a fresh new turn for the character and the universe.
Courtenay Valenti and Sue Kroll, studio executives, shared some words about the future of 007 at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
"We are committed to honoring the legacy of this iconic character while bringing a fresh, exotic new chapter to audiences around the world alongside [producers] Amy [Pascal] and David [Heyman]," they said, according to Variety.
"They’re both in London getting started and couldn’t be here tonight, but we wanted to thank them for what we know to make an incredible partnership,” they added.
Viewers were taken aback by this promise of a new twist on the character, as one user rejected it saying, "People don’t want a fresh exotic Bond," while another added, "‘Fresh?’ ‘Exotic?’ No, no, no. James Bond was already perfect, why changing the roots of Ian Fleming[‘s] iconic character?”
One user wondered why Amazon had purchased an old franchise if they wanted to do something fresh, "If they wanted to do something ‘fresh’, why buy the James Bond franchise?"
Others were open to change, writing comments like "It's time, it's time for a James Bond 007 female," and "I hope he’s a black actor.”
