Meghan Markle has been under fire after officially revealing that she now goes by Meghan Sussex instead of Markle—but now, a royal family member is publicly disputing her claim.

Speaking to Town & Country magazine, Lord Ivar Mountbatten, King Charles’s second cousin, criticized Meghan for incorrectly stating that Sussex is her family name.

"It's interesting because she’s completely incorrect. Her family name is not Sussex, her family name is Mountbatten-Windsor," he stated.

He clarified that Meghan’s children, Archie and Lilibet, also do not use Sussex as a last name.

"Her children are called Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor; they’re not called Archie and Lilibet Sussex because Sussex is a title," he explained.

"So, they are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but actually he’s Harry Mountbatten-Windsor and she would be Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor."

Lord Ivar also commented on Meghan’s new Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, revealing that he isn’t particularly interested in watching.

"I might be interested to watch it; it might not last long," he remarked.

Why did Meghan Markle change her last name to Sussex?

During her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, the Duchess publicly corrected her friend Mindy Kaling, clarifying that she now goes by Meghan Sussex.

She explained that her family has adopted Sussex as their last name to reflect their unity. While some royals use Mountbatten-Windsor, Prince Harry never has. Meghan’s decision to embrace Sussex aligns with long-standing royal traditions.

However, with locals demanding that she establish stronger ties to the county, questions remain—will Meghan Markle respond to the criticism, or will she continue using the Sussex title without further engagement with the region?
