Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continue to make headlines after the Duchess of Sussex recently revealed that she has officially changed her last name from Markle to Sussex—a name derived from the royal title they received from Queen Elizabeth II on their wedding day.

While speculation has been swirling about whether King Charles III might strip the couple of their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles due to their repeated criticisms of the royal family, royal expert Phil Dampier believes this is unlikely.

Speaking to The Sun, Dampier explained why the monarch may never take such action against Harry and Meghan.

"I doubt King Charles would like Meghan making references to the importance of Sussex as her name, but I’ve always felt he's reluctant to start any process of stripping her and Harry of their titles," Dampier said.

The royal expert suggested that the King still holds out hope for a reconciliation with his son, despite their strained relationship.

"It would be difficult to do, and he doesn’t want to make the rift any worse, hoping one day there might be a reconciliation with his son," he added.

Dampier also weighed in on Meghan’s new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, which has been met with mixed reviews.

"The show won’t do anything to help mend the rift between them as it’s mainly just drivel about re-arranging fruit and lighting candles," he remarked.

However, he did acknowledge that Meghan’s latest project is at least steering away from the couple’s usual royal controversy.

"At least Meghan is trying to make money out of something else besides criticizing the royal family. But any family reconciliation will take a lot longer and a real changing of attitudes on all sides."

Why did Meghan Markle change her last name to Sussex?

During her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, the Duchess publicly corrected her friend Mindy Kaling, clarifying that she now goes by Meghan Sussex.

She explained that her family has adopted Sussex as their last name to reflect their unity. While some royals use Mountbatten-Windsor, Prince Harry never has. Meghan’s decision to embrace Sussex aligns with long-standing royal traditions.

However, with locals demanding that she establish stronger ties to the county, questions remain—will Meghan Markle respond to the criticism, or will she continue using the Sussex title without further engagement with the region?
