Meghan Markle’s use of the Sussex title continues to spark controversy, with residents of the county voicing their frustrations over the former royal’s lack of connection to the region.
Speaking to MailOnline, Sussex resident Jeff Hall shared his thoughts on Meghan and Prince Harry still using their Sussex titles, despite rarely visiting the area.
"I'm sure the Sussex title is a very lucrative thing to have, and having married into the Royal Family, she should be able to use it," Hall acknowledged. However, he added that Meghan should actively engage with the region rather than just using the name.
"If she is going to use it, then I would like to see her over in the county a bit more. One visit in eight years isn't really good enough. She should come more often to earn the right to use the name," he added.
Jeff’s brother Colin Hall echoed his sentiment, arguing that Meghan should take a more active role in the Sussex community.
“If she's going to claim the title, then she should have more connection with the place," Colin stated.
“She should get involved in a children's charity or do something else worthwhile in the county. Simply adopting Sussex as a surname to use to your own ends is cynical,” he added.

During her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, the Duchess publicly corrected her friend Mindy Kaling, clarifying that she now goes by Meghan Sussex.
She explained that her family has adopted Sussex as their last name to reflect their unity. While some royals use Mountbatten-Windsor, Prince Harry never has. Meghan’s decision to embrace Sussex aligns with long-standing royal traditions.
