Biden administration 'rebuffs' Steph Curry's help to free Brittney Griner

Steph Curry has opened up about the lack of support he received from the US government regarding Brittney Griner’s detainment in Russia.

Speaking to Rolling Stone for their October issue cover story, Curry revealed Biden administration turned down his offer to help with efforts to gain the Phoenix Mercury All-Star’s release.

"My contacts in the Biden administration rebuffed an offer to help,'' he told the outlet.

Griner was convicted on drug smuggling charges and sentenced to nine years on August 4. She was arrested for being caught with cannabis oil cartridges at a Moscow airport security on February 17.

Biden administration deemed her detainment wrongful in May.

Curry also revealed he reached out to the government during the time when Griner was in pretrial detention. However, his extended olive branch was once again rejected amid Russian prison-swap negotiations.

"They were telling us, 'Don’t say anything,'" Curry said.
