Demi Lovato opens up about adding She/Her pronouns to They/Them

Demi Lovato is disclosing her recent pronoun shift addition.

Approximately two months after changing her pronouns on Instagram to include "she/her" in addition to the pronouns she has been using since last year, "they/them," Lovato recently discussed the reasons behind the choice with host Tamara Dhia on the Spout podcast.

When Dhia questioned Lovato on the meaning of specific pronouns they/them, the 29-year-old singer-songwriter replied, "Yeah, so, they/them is... I've actually adopted the pronouns of she/her again."

"For me, I'm such a fluid person that ... I felt like, especially last year, my energy was balanced in my masculine and feminine energy”, she added. “So that when I was faced with the choice of walking into a bathroom and it said 'women' and 'men,' I didn't feel like there was a bathroom for me because I didn't feel necessarily like a woman. I didn't feel like a man. I just felt like a human."

Lovato further explained, “That's what they/them is about for me. It's just about, like, feeling human at your core".

"Recently, I've been feeling more feminine, and so I've adopted she / her again. But I think what's important is, like, nobody's perfect. Everyone messes up pronouns at some point, and especially when people are learning. It's just all about respect”, said the Dancing With The Devil singer.

The eighth studio album by Lovato, HOLY FVCK, which marks a return to her pop/punk beginnings and was preceded by the singles "Skin of My Teeth" and "Substance," will be released on August 19th.
