Reese Witherspoon’s support to artificial intelligence has recently prompted criticism from literary community.
In a latest video posted on Instagram, the Legally Blonde actress argued that out of 10 women, three of them used AI and only one felt it confident.
Given this observation, Reese pointed out that 70 percent of the group could not keep up with the technology.
“The thing I’ve learned about technology is if you don’t get a little bit of understanding from the very beginning, it just speeds past you. So, you have to have little bits of learning just to keep up,” explained the Oscar-winning actress.
Therefore, Reese urged women and her followers to “learn the basics together” to make their everyday lives easier and better.
It is pertinent to mention that the video garnered around three million views and received support from celebrity pals like Kerry Washington and CAA power agent Maha Dakhil.
But there were some factions that did not agree with The Morning Show star’s viewpoint, claiming on Threads that she’s “heavily invested monetarily in AI” which is why she could not see that AI is “stealing and profiting off actual artists’ work”.
Some also expressed concerns that Reese should educate herself on the high electricity usage of data centres and their impact on local communities.
One journalist Christina Binkley wrote on Threads that it’s time that the Sweet Home Alabama actress learned “that men doing something does not make it a good or smart thing to do”.
Meanwhile, writers' community noted that as a prolific producer, known for bringing many literary works to the screen, Reese’s stance on AI had left her fans baffled.
