Pedro Almodóvar has given his thoughts on Jacob Elordi’s acting career, and has expressed doubt about the actor’s range and roles.

The Spanish director critiqued the Priscilla actor’s latest performances and questioned his status, adding that the actor’s true potential and skills are still yet to be seen in some blunt remarks.

In an interview on the La Pija y la Quinqui podcast, the filmmaker stated “I think Jacob Elordi is going to be a big star—no doubt about that. But lately I’ve been wondering whether he’s just a sex symbol or a respected actor […] I need to see him in something that asks more of him, at least.”

The Room Next Door director went on to add that projects like Wuthering Heights and Frankenstein don’t bring resolution to these queries since the movies are overly stylized and the because the roles are not too demanding in terms of range.

Pedro explained that Frankenstein adaptations have added a novel element into the horror story, by making the monster more appealing.

“But now they’ve added a kind of sexualised imagery to it; they’ve made the monster attractive. He has to speak in that deep, low voice, and that’s much easier than using a more expressive range. So, in that sense, 'Frankenstein' is very convenient for an actor,” he said.

Pedro ended the brief but candid commentary on Jacob’s range and characters by noting that he needs to see The Kissing Booth actor in more challenging roles before making up his mind on his status in the industry.
