Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly never intended to settle at Adelaide Cottage, with royal insiders revealing the move was a “compromise” forced by Prince Andrew’s refusal to leave Royal Lodge.
The couple, both 43, had originally hoped to raise their children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, in the sprawling 30-room Royal Lodge, but plans fell apart when Andrew, who’s lived there since 2003 with Sarah Ferguson, refused to vacate.
A royal source told The Mail on Sunday: “Them going into Adelaide Cottage was never the plan. But they were forced to because Prince Andrew wouldn’t shift.”
Now, the Prince and Princess of Wales are preparing to move again, this time to Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom Georgian mansion set within the Windsor estate.
The move is expected to happen over the school holidays to help the children adjust smoothly.
The insider added: “It’s not just about her [Kate’s] health. The Queen’s death, the California attacks, all of it has taken a toll. They want a fresh start, and Forest Lodge gives them that.”
