The late Queen Elizabeth II’s true feelings about her disgraced son, Prince Andrew, became apparent in one powerful statement issued months before her death, a royal expert has claimed.
While the Duke of York was long rumoured to be the Queen’s “favourite child,” her tone changed dramatically in early 2022 when Buckingham Palace confirmed that Andrew’s royal titles and military honours were being removed amid the fallout from his Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
The statement read: “With the Queen’s approval and agreement, the Duke of York’s military affiliations and royal patronages have been returned to the Queen.”
Royal author Omid Scobie claimed the phrasing was deliberate, a subtle but firm public distancing that insiders saw as a sign the Queen was “disgusted and deeply disappointed.”
According to Scobie’s book Endgame, Andrew was “summoned to Windsor” and forced to face his mother alone after she refused to meet him with his lawyer present.
A royal insider told Scobie: “He knew it was coming. But given the damage he caused, it was a small price to pay.”
