Prince Andrew’s former Berkshire mansion, Sunninghill Park, was once a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth II, but it became one of the Royal Family’s most controversial properties.
The 12-bedroom estate, which the late Queen gave Andrew when he married Sarah Ferguson in 1986, was officially owned by the monarch through a long lease, with Andrew reportedly granted its use rent-free.
According to The Times, the property’s freehold was transferred to a royal trust for just £12,500, before being sold in 2007 to an offshore company linked to Kazakh billionaire Timur Kulibayev for a staggering £15 million, £3 million over its asking price.
After years of neglect, the home was demolished in 2015, and replaced by a sprawling modern mansion, but locals say the new build is “ugly” and “out of place.”
“It looks like a supermarket or a budget hotel,” one neighbour told The Mail. “It’s completely ruined the view.”
The new house remains empty, though five gardeners and a team of cleaners reportedly maintain the property.
