Demon Slayer: Kimitsu no Yaiba has broken global records after its last premiere date in the United States on September 12, 2025.

The first film in the anime, which continues the story after the events of the fourth season, initially made $70 million in its opening weekend.

However, as per new numbers pulled in globally, Crunchyroll, the studios that brought the anime to life, have reported a $555 million success, making Demon Slayer the highest-grossing anime film ever.

Notably, the last anime which held the title was Pokémon: The First Movie, which was released in 1999 and brought in $85.7 million.

The hype around the series was generated by Ufotable, the animation studio’s seamless blend of 2D hand-drawn characters with 3D CGI, which resulted in visually stunning fight scenes and backgrounds.

Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, the Infinity Castle arc follows the seven Hashiras and the trio into Infinity Castle, where top moon demons are waiting for the final battle.

According to Sotozaki, two more movies have been planned in continuation of the Infinity Castle trilogy, which will explore the defeat of Muzan Kibutsuji.

As of now, the speculative release dates for the movies are 2027 and 2029.

Is Ufotable releasing an Akaza dedicated film?

According to reports, the studio will explore an extended version of the demon Akaza’s backstory.
