American comedian Jon Stewart, best known for his fearless political jabs, wasted no time in celebrating Jimmy Kimmel’s sensational TV comeback.

The 57-year-old presenter’s long-running show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, was suspended by ABC after remarks he made about the alleged perpetrator of Charlie Kirk’s death.

Notably, the blackout sparked widespread outrage, with critics condemning it as an attack on free speech.

Stewart joined the chorus of support, opening The Daily Show on Monday night by praising fans who had rallied behind Kimmel.

Mocking the boycott that swept social media, the 62-year-old comic quipped: “I want to say this seriously, that campaign pretending you were going to cancel Hulu while secretly bingeing Only Murders in the Building really worked. Congratulations.”

Moreover, he also devoted last week’s programme to a satirical ‘government-approved’ edition of his show.

He ridiculed Donald Trump’s claim that Kimmel was fired for “lack of talent”, joking the president uses a “talent-o-meter” to decide who stays on TV.

ABC has since confirmed that Kimmel will return to screens on Tuesday night.

Disney sought to defuse the row, explaining that the pause was intended to avoid inflaming an already tense situation, but stressed that discussions with Kimmel had paved the way for his swift comeback.
