James Gunn, renowned for his irreverent superhero hits, has delivered a fresh take on the Man of Steel in DC Studios’ Superman.

The highly anticipated film has arrived on HBO Max earlier than expected, bringing a brand-new Clark Kent into living rooms around the world.

The streaming date was first hinted at by lead actor David Corenswet, before being confirmed by Gunn himself.

The 32-year-old actor even appeared to leak the news, sharing a cheeky selfie with the film’s streaming screen in the background, captioned: “Doing my best Eve Teschmacher impression.”

Moreover, the 59-year-old DC chief clarified that the early release is not due to box office performance, but is intended to give audiences a head start before Peacemaker Season 2, which continues the storyline directly.

In the film, Superman has been protecting Metropolis for three years when a failed mission and an international incident put him squarely in the crosshairs of tech billionaire Lex Luthor.

According to the synopsis, every move of Superman is closely scrutinised, leaving him vulnerable to Luthor’s cunning schemes.

Notably, the digital release landed on HBO Max this Friday, September 19, with a television airing on HBO the following day at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
