Gary Oldman, the legendary actor who brought the brooding Sirius Black to life in the original Harry Potter films, has shared his stance on reprising the role.
The 67-year-old first rose to fame in the mid-1980s with his breakthrough performance in Sid and Nancy, and has recently impressed audiences with roles in Oppenheimer and the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses.
During an appearance on Entertainment Tonight, he was asked if he would return as the iconic character, to which he made it clear that he will not be part of the eagerly awaited HBO reboot.
“No, absolutely not. They wouldn’t… I don’t think they want to come near the original,” he said, adding with a chuckle, “I’m too old now to play Sirius Black.”
The new series is moving ahead at full speed, promising a fresh take on the wizarding world, with the golden trio and other beloved characters set to appear.
While fans may hope for familiar faces, the show primarily introduces new talent, though Warwick Davis will reprise his role as Professor Flitwick.
“Bringing in new actors is absolutely necessary,” say insiders, as the series faces ongoing comparisons to the original films.
Daniel Radcliffe, who famously played Harry Potter, has already confirmed he won’t be involved, and Oldman has now echoed the sentiment.
