David Jonsson enters 'Black Panther' franchise following the events of Wakanda Forever and its emotional ending
Marvel Studios has officially announced Black Panther III, with Ryan Coogler returning as director and David Jonsson confirmed as Wakanda's next Black Panther.
The reveal came on Sunday, July 26, at San Diego Comic-Con, where Marvel Studios confirmed Jonsson's casting as an adult T'Challa's son and Wakanda's next Black Panther.
The actor expressed his excitement after being introduced as the franchise's new Black Panther, saying, “Thank you to this amazing family that I have the honor and privilege and the blessing to join.”
Marvel later shared the update on Instagram, making the casting official and confirming that Jonsson will take on the role of Black Panther, with Ryan Coogler directing the film for its December 15, 2028 release.
It is pertinent to note, the upcoming phase of the Black Panther franchise was teased in Wakanda Forever, after Marvel introduced T'Challa's son with Nakia.
The third movie comes after the franchise enjoyed huge success with its earlier releases.
Black Panther became one of Marvel's biggest hits, collecting over $1.3 billion worldwide, followed by Wakanda Forever, which earned more than $850 million and received recognition from the Academy.
