'Spider-Man' boss defends secrecy over Sadie Sink's hidden character

Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton has insisted fans will thank the filmmakers for keeping Sadie Sink's mysterious Marvel role firmly under wraps.

The filmmaker revealed the secrecy surrounding the 24-year-old Stranger Things star isn't about creating hype but about giving cinema-goers the biggest possible surprise when the film finally lands. 

Sadie joins an all-star cast including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando and Tramell Tillman, but exactly who she is playing remains one of Marvel's best-kept secrets.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cretton explained the team had no interest in trying to outdo the epic scale of the previous Spider-Man film. 

Instead, they wanted to tell a more personal story with emotional depth.

He admitted there are certain twists that are far more enjoyable if audiences discover them for themselves.

He said that fans who head to cinemas on opening weekend without knowing key details will have a much richer experience. 

According to the director, protecting those surprises is all about preserving the magic of the film rather than fuelling speculation.

Sadie has also opened up about entering the Marvel universe, admitting she underestimated just how enormous the franchise really is.

Although she knew Spider-Man had a devoted following, the actress confessed she was taken aback by the sheer scale of the blockbuster machine. 

Fortunately, she said co-star Tom Holland made the transition easy, describing him as welcoming, relaxed and incredibly supportive from the moment she joined the production.

Despite endless fan theories circulating online, Sadie has had little trouble keeping her character a secret.

The actress, who won over audiences as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, shrugged off the challenge, insisting staying silent is actually quite simple.
