Tom Holland's surprising confession over career's toughest role

Tom Holland has revealed he's gearing up for what could be the toughest role of his career.

The 30-year-old actor admitted that he feels both thrilled and terrified as he prepares to portray legendary dancer Fred Astaire on the big screen.

The Spider-Man star opened up about the highly anticipated biopic during an appearance on Good Morning America, explaining that he's already back in the dance studio as production edges closer.

Reflecting on his career, Holland admitted he's entering a new phase as an actor and is eager to take on more demanding roles.

"I now feel like I'm starting this chapter where I can't quite get away with being a teenager anymore," he said.

Furthermore he added that once his current promotional tour ends, he'll dedicate himself entirely to dance training.

Despite his confidence, The Odyssey actor confessed his first rehearsals were a reality check.

He revealed they left him feeling "filled with excitement and absolute dread" because of the enormous challenge of doing justice to one of Hollywood's greatest performers.

Determined to honour Astaire's legacy, Holland said he hopes to perform every dance routine himself, without relying on stunt doubles. 

His ambition is to film the intricate sequences in a single take, mirroring the style that made Astaire famous.

The long-awaited biopic, directed by Paul King from a screenplay by Steven Levenson, was first announced in 2021. 

The Impossible star previously joked that producer Amy Pascal broke the casting news to him during a FaceTime call while he was relaxing in the bath.

Away from the dance floor, Holland and wife Zendaya are currently travelling the world promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrives in cinemas on July 31.
