Adele takes on biggest career risk with opera ambition

Adele is reportedly preparing to push herself in an entirely new direction as she makes her long-awaited acting debut, with the chart-topping star said to be exploring the possibility of singing opera on screen.

The 38-year-old-singer has joined an impressive cast, including Colin Firth, Nicholas Hoult, Thandiwe Newton and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, in Tom Ford's upcoming film Cry To Heaven.

While stepping into the world of acting is already a major leap, insiders claim Adele is also eager to tackle a musical style far removed from the soulful pop sound that made her famous.

According to reports, the Hello hitmaker has held discussions with Ford about incorporating live vocals into the film, which centres around opera. 

Rather than relying on a traditional soundtrack, the pair are said to be exploring ways to blend opera with a more modern sound that suits her unmistakable voice.

A source claimed Set Fire to the Rain singer has thrown herself into the project, determined to prove she can hold her own alongside Hollywood heavyweights. 

Although she has never trained as an opera singer, those close to the production reportedly believe her powerful vocals could bring something fresh to the genre.

Behind the scenes, Adele has also leaned on one of her closest celebrity friends for advice. 

Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is said to have encouraged the singer as she prepared for her first major film role, offering reassurance after Adele spent years turning down acting opportunities over fears she wasn't cut out for the screen.

The friendship goes both ways. Lawrence has previously admitted she wished she'd listened when Adele warned her against starring in 2016 sci-fi film Passengers.
